Insights from the Identity & Access Management Community
From March 2-6, 2026, IAM professionals from across Europe gathered in Vienna for One Identity UNITE 2026, the annual conference for customers, partners, and identity security experts working with the One Identity platform.
The event featured a broad agenda with keynotes, technical sessions, and breakout tracks covering topics such as Identity Governance (IGA), Privileged Access Management (PAM), Access Management, and the growing role of AI in enterprise identity environments.
For our team at Identity-Team, UNITE 2026 was a special milestone: it was our first time participating as both an exhibitor and a speaker at the conference.
This gave us the opportunity not only to reconnect with the IAM community, but also to share practical insights from our project work in complex One Identity Manager environments and present two solutions that emerged directly from this experience: Optimizer and Co-Consultant.
Managing complexity in mature IAM environments
One theme that repeatedly appeared in conversations throughout the conference was the operational complexity of mature IAM environments.
Many organizations have been running identity governance platforms like One Identity Manager for several years. Over time, identity landscapes grow significantly: role models expand, entitlements accumulate, and system integrations increase.
As a result, the main challenge often shifts.
Instead of implementing IAM from scratch, teams are increasingly focusing on understanding and operating the environments they already have.
Typical questions discussed during the event included:
-
Which roles and entitlements are actually used?
-
How transparent is license usage across the environment?
-
How can IAM structures be optimized without disrupting operations?
Optimizer: Transparency for One Identity environments
During UNITE 2026, we introduced Optimizer, a solution designed to help organizations better understand their One Identity Manager environments.
Optimizer analyzes identity structures such as identities, roles, entitlements, and license assignments and generates structured reports that help teams evaluate their environment more effectively.
The solution focuses on one key objective: creating transparency in complex IAM landscapes and supporting governance and optimization initiatives.
Co-consultant: AI support for IAM operations
Another topic frequently discussed during UNITE was the role of AI in enterprise identity environments.
Many organizations are exploring how AI can support daily IAM operations, for example when analyzing identity structures or generating reports.
At the conference, we also introduced Co-Consultant, an AI-supported assistant designed specifically for One Identity Manager environments.
The Co-Consultant allows administrators and auditors to interact with the system through a conversational interface while operating within the existing permission and governance model.
The goal is to support IAM teams in navigating complex environments and accessing information more efficiently without bypassing established security controls.
The value of the UNITE community
Beyond the technical sessions, one of the most valuable aspects of UNITE remains the exchange between practitioners working with IAM systems in real organizations.
Many discussions during the conference focused on practical challenges such as managing complex role models, improving governance transparency, and integrating IAM platforms into broader security architectures.
For us at Identity-Team, participating in UNITE for the first time as both exhibitor and speaker was a great opportunity to exchange ideas with the community and present Optimizer and Co-Consultant as practical tools for working with complex One Identity Manager environments.
We are already looking forward to continuing these conversations at future UNITE events, with the next conference taking place in Barcelona in 2027.
To continue the conversation after UNITE, we will also host two live demo sessions on LinkedIn on March 16.
In these sessions, we will showcase Optimizer and Co-Consultant in more detail and demonstrate how they support teams working with One Identity Manager environments.
If you are interested in seeing the tools in action, feel free to join the sessions and bring your questions.
